The admissions message that has to persuade two people

A strategic teardown of why single-message admissions campaigns underperform, and what to run instead.

This is strategic exploration. It was self-initiated by Purple Ocean. No client commissioned it, no campaign was run, and there are therefore no performance figures to report. It is published so you can assess how we think about a problem before committing to work with us.

Context

Admissions campaigns are typically written for one audience and shown to two. Parents and students weigh entirely different things, but the budget, the creative and the landing page are usually shared.

The challenge

Show how splitting an admissions campaign into two connected communication tracks changes both the creative and the funnel — without doubling the production cost.

The approach

  1. 01

Separate the parent thesis (outcomes, safety, value) from the student thesis (belonging, ambition)

  2. 02

Design shared brand assets with divergent messaging layers

  3. 03

Route each audience to a landing experience written for them

  4. 04

Sequence follow-up so counselling reaches the household, not just the form-filler

  5. 05

Structure measurement so each track can be judged independently

Deliverables
